Sustainable Alternatives Announces Upcoming Activities

We're excited about 2008 and are planning lots of great activities for the upcoming months. First, we're starting a film series that will feature environmental and sustainability-related film screenings. Check out the calendar, as we'll try to set these up on a regular basis depending on public response. Our first film screening will feature The Future of Food on January 27th. We'll show the film again on January 29th. (more)

We have a few comfy chairs on hand, and some rugs and throw pillows if you'd like to sit on the floor, but feel free to bring your own chairs. Also, we'll provide a few light refreshments, but feel free to bring your own refreshments, too. Parking is VERY imited at our facility, so please consider alternative transportation, carpooling, or public transit. We're right on the corner of Markham and Woodrow - directly on the Central AR Transit Route #1 (Pulaski Heights), which stops 1/2 block from our building. Our big green house has a wrought iron gate around the front yard, and if you ride your bike, you are welcome to park it securely inside our gate. If you drive a car, please park in the back of our building (the back yard is all gravel) and limited parking on the gravel area immediately east of our backyard, on the edge of the Deaf School property. Please be extremely considerate of the school property - thank you!

Maybe you find yourself across the street at Pizza D'Action or Oyster Bar for dinner and want to mosey across and check out what we're up to? Feel free to stop by any time. We try to keep some lights on downstairs when we're here. Just ring the doorbell and give us a minute to answer - we might be upstairs in the office.

Even before spring arrives, we'll also be starting gardening and composting classes to help you learn how you can garden on as small or as grand a scale as you desire. Sustainable Alternatives seeks to GROW the local food movement on all fronts. Keep checking back for more information.

Also, do you ever have basic questions about recycling or waste reduction in central AR? We'll be hosting a series of classes to help you answer all those confusing questions about what you can and can't recycle, and why, and maybe even increase recycling efforts in our fair metropolis!

In the meantime, don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions. The best way to reach us is to call Julie at 501-350-0713 (local in LR). Leave a message and we promise to call you back.
