Land Improvement

We recently purchased 14 acres of land in Omaha, Arkansas and plan on moving there and gardening/cottage farming the land, maybe with some animals to assist in fertilizing the land and providing for some of our family's needs.

According to the soil survey, the majority of the soil is classified as "Gassville very cherty silt loam".  I'm doing research on the best way to improve the soil for gardening and reducing the erosion danger.

Do you by chance know anyone close to Omaha, Arkansas who might be able to visit our land and offer advice?  We're pretty new to this and want to do things right.  There are a lot of wonderful books out there, but real people who can look at the land would be wonderful.  :-)

Thanks for your time.
